On 6 June, we closed Les Deux the way it began, in the house and in conversation, with Meureuk's work at the center.

Chef Simonn prepared plates for Galerie36 for the first time, composing a menu drawn directly from Meureuk's photographs. Three images became three plates: SOCLE, shrimp and salmon; LEMONDE (AMADOU), beef and mushroom; AU TRÉPAS DES VAGUES, chicken and shrimp. A brief introduction from the Chef and Meureuk opened the evening, and from there the photographs left the wall and arrived at the table. Chef Simonn presented each course himself, walking the room through the thinking behind every dish — image becoming taste, an exchange of the senses.

Twelve seats. One table.

Intimacy in our space is not a constraint but a curatorial decision, and on Saturday it gathered Senegal, Haiti, Jamaica, New Orleans, and New York into a single conversation. Africa and its diaspora at one table, rooted in Dakar and open to the world.

Wines selected by Métis Kacao Senegal Gourmet, from South Africa and Portugal, met each course in turn. We shared stories. We laughed. We marked the final days of Les Deux among people who had not all met before that evening and who left it as something closer to a circle. 

Chef Simonn  returns to the house this fall, as we open a new season of gatherings. What we build in private rooms echoes in public ones, and we hope you will be at the table.

Le 6 juin, nous avons clôturé Les Deux comme elle avait commencé, dans la maison et dans la conversation, avec le travail de Meureuk au centre.

Chef Simonn a cuisiné pour Galerie36 pour la première fois, composant un menu directement inspiré des photographies de Meureuk. Trois images sont devenues trois plats: SOCLE, crevettes et saumon ; LEMONDE (AMADOU), bœuf et champignons ; AU TRÉPAS DES VAGUES, poulet et crevettes. Une brève introduction du Chef et de Meureuk a ouvert la soirée, et de là, les photographies ont quitté le mur pour rejoindre la table. Chef Simonn a présenté lui-même chaque plat, dévoilant à ses convives la pensée qui habitait chacun — l'image devenant goût, un échange des sens.

Douze places. Une table.

L'intimité, dans notre espace, n'est pas une contrainte mais un choix curatorial, et samedi elle a réuni le Sénégal, Haïti, la Jamaïque, La Nouvelle-Orléans et New York en une seule conversation. L'Afrique et sa diaspora à une même table, ancrée à Dakar et ouverte sur le monde.

Les vins sélectionnés par Métis Kacao Senegal Gourmet, d'Afrique du Sud et du Portugal, ont accompagné chaque plat tour à tour. Nous avons partagé des histoires. Nous avons ri. Nous avons marqué les derniers jours de Les Deux entourés de personnes qui ne s'étaient pas toutes rencontrées avant cette soirée, et qui l'ont quittée presque comme un cercle.

Chef Simonn reviendra dans la maison cet automne, à l'ouverture d'une nouvelle saison de rencontres. Ce que nous bâtissons dans les pièces privées résonne dans les pièces publiques, et nous espérons que vous serez à la table.
