Africa.com: Galerie36: Where Art, Identity, and Community Converge in Dakar

In Dakar, Ayofemi Kirby has created Galerie36, a vibrant art space that blends contemporary creativity with community connection.

Departing from the cold formality of traditional galleries, Galerie36 offers a warm, intimate setting for meaningful cultural exchange between Africa and its Diaspora. Galerie36 was recently launched, and its debut exhibition, Meeting Nature by self-taught artist Daouda Niane Dit Uda, explores humanity through faceless figures and fluid lines, mirroring the gallery’s ethos of connection and shared identity.

Beyond exhibitions, the gallery will host workshops and talks, aiming to nurture local talent and invite global dialogue. With Africa’s art scene gaining momentum, Kirby envisions the gallery as both a sanctuary and a catalyst, where overlooked artists are discovered, and where art becomes a tool for connection, reflection, and resistance in a fast-paced world.
