Our First Chapter: Meeting Nature at Galerie36

There’s a particular kind of quiet that comes at the end of something beautiful. A fullness. A soft exhale. A moment when you realize that what you created—what you imagined, nurtured, and held—has taken on a life of its own.

That’s how I feel as we closed Meeting Nature, the debut exhibition of Galerie36 and the first public expression of a vision I’ve been quietly carrying for years; an intimate art gallery and gathering space, by the sea, featuring the work of artists I love.

This gallery began as a whisper. A nudge. A feeling that Dakar—a city that moves with rhythm, color, and soul—could hold a space where I could help honor the creative force of African and Afro-descended creativity with intention and depth. A place where the global and the local could meet each other through art, not as spectacle, but as conversation.

And so we opened our doors.

Not with fanfare, but with presence.

Not for the masses, but for the people who feel, who understand creativity as a language, who come in curious and leave changed from a chance to slow down, peruse a book, have a cup of tea or coffee, and go on about their day.

Meeting Nature was our beginning.

And it was the perfect beginning.

Uda’s work brought something into the space that can only be described as elemental. His textures, his colors, his sensitive boldness—each piece invited us to notice, to remember ourselves and the world beyond the noise.

Galerie36 is closed until December 4 as we prepare for our next exhibition. Along with our artists, our artisans, our team, and our budding community, we’re growing something grounded in creativity, care, and global possibility.

Much more to come.
